Perth will get a new airport that will see the opening of the first of several major new airports in the state.
The Perth Airport Authority has been given a $20 million grant from the Government to build a new terminal at Keperleys Wharf in Perth’s north.
It is the first major development to take place in Perth since the State Government approved $6.6 million in funding for the development of the new airport.
The airport will also be the first to receive a major upgrade to Perth Airport’s security and security control system.
The grant will be used to complete the final phase of the airport, which will include the installation of new security fencing and new airport security barriers.
The new airport will be open to commercial flights from 2019.
Premier Mike Baird said the new terminal was vital to Perth’s growth and job creation, and it was important to continue to support local businesses.
“We are committed to bringing Perth Airport to its rightful place in our national airport infrastructure,” he said.
“Keperley will become a major hub for our city, and our local economy, by creating the best place to work, study and play in the region.”
The project is expected to be completed by 2022.
