Police say the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart at 8400 W. State Street about 7:15 p.m.
Saturday.
No one else was injured.
Walmart spokeswoman Debra Klima said the shooting was a “manhunt” and that the store is closed.
Walter Williams Jr., 51, was taken into custody after a short foot chase in the area.
Williams’ mother, Jennifer Williams, said her son had a history of mental health problems and that he had been diagnosed as bipolar, but did not provide details about that diagnosis.

He declined to elaborate.
