Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford said the team has “done everything we can” to stop the bleeding, losing 107-84 at Detroit on Friday night.
“I think we’ve got to find a way to come together,” Clifford said.
“We can’t be the bad guys and we can’t put ourselves in a position where we’re out of the playoff picture.
We’re going to have to do everything we possibly can to get out of this, and I think we’re going a long way toward doing that.”
The Hornets are currently on pace to finish in the top half of the Eastern Conference.
Charlotte has not won more than five games since the beginning of November, the longest such stretch in the NBA.
“It’s not the first time, but we’ve not been able to put our game together at a good time,” coach Steve Kerr said.
Detroit’s Jodie Meeks scored 22 points for the Pistons, who lost their third straight.
They were down by as many as 14 in the third quarter and didn’t take any leads until they scored 10 consecutive points to extend the lead to 74-67 at halftime.
The Pistons outscored Charlotte 35-19 in the fourth quarter and tied the game on a 3-pointer by Meeks with 1:38 left.
Detroit went on a 9-0 run to start the fourth to take a 76-70 lead into the fourth.
Charlotte responded with a 10-0 spurt and held on for a 76, 76, 71-69 win.
Charlotte had six players score in double figures for the win, including Jodiece Meeks, who finished with 12 points.
Cameron Oliver, the Hornets’ second-leading scorer in 2017-18, finished with eight points and four rebounds.
He is averaging 11.8 points on 45.7 percent shooting over the last four games.
Meeks and the Pistons shot 53.3 percent and had 17 offensive rebounds, tying a season high.
Jodie’s big night came in the second quarter when she was fouled and scored the first of her three points.
Meeks then missed a 3 with 2:46 left, but he returned and scored to make it 79-78.
Jolson’s three points led the way for Charlotte, who led by as much as 16 with 4:36 left in the period.
Oliver then hit a 3 from the corner and Meeks had a jumper to give Charlotte a 78-75 lead with 1 minute, 15 seconds remaining.
Carmelo Anthony and Courtney Lee each scored 14 points for Detroit.
Jody Meeks has been averaging 14.8 ppg over the past four games, tying for the NBA lead.
Josue Gonzalez, who was acquired from Miami in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, had eight points, five rebounds and two assists for Charlotte.
Tina Marie-Estrada scored 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Tyla Thompson had 13 points for Charlotte (22-11, 11-6).
Tia Daniels had 12 points and five rebounds for Detroit (23-11), which has lost seven of eight.
The Pistons haven’t won a home game since March 29, 2020.
The Hornets and Pistons played a game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Dec. 14, 2018, a season-high 71-70 win for Charlotte that was followed by a 107-93 loss on Dec, 29, 2019.
