Posted September 20, 2018 06:18:54When a student at Oregon State University was raped in her dorm room, the university’s administration decided to make a change.
They fired the dean of student services and replaced him with an administrator who is accused of having sex with her.
The university has now changed its sexual assault policy, but it has not done so without a full review of the circumstances.
The University of Oregon’s sexual misconduct policy was supposed to be in place by December 1, 2020.
But a review by The American College Health Association found it is currently “under review,” and that the school’s sexual assault prevention efforts need to be overhauled.
It’s an uphill climb for the university to reverse the decades of progress it made on sexual assault and the epidemic of sexual violence at colleges and universities nationwide.
On Wednesday, the Association of American Universities voted to release a report that outlines the issues, including how to address the problems and how to implement a comprehensive response.
“This is a very difficult, very serious problem, and we have a lot of work to do, but we’re moving forward,” said University of Michigan Law School Professor Jennifer Finkelhor.
“I would say that the work is already well underway.”
The association’s report is part of a series of studies the university is conducting that will help determine how best to respond to the problem.
The association is asking members of the public to weigh in on how best the university can change its policy to prevent the future of victims.
If members of The American Council on Education, an advocacy group for higher education, are among those who vote to approve the change, they could help make that happen.
“We’re going to have to make that decision on a case-by-case basis,” said Finkelhor.
“We’re looking for people who have some experience in the college campus, but who also have some understanding of how to be effective advocates for their students and their community.
We’re going through a process of weighing that in and taking that into account.”
The university says it will not change the way it responds to sexual assaults, and that there will be no change in how it responds if there are no cases of sexual assault reported to campus.
But it has also changed how it processes complaints, and it has increased its role in sexual assault investigations.
The American Council of Education, which advocates for higher ed, has been pushing for the changes since the beginning of the epidemic.
In September, it released a letter urging the university not to abandon its efforts to protect students from sexual assault.
The changes to the university policy will not take effect until 2019, and the university says they will be made “based on current law and current data.”
The new administration is currently looking at a list of recommendations from the ACHA that includes new reporting requirements, increased protections for survivors and a stronger response to reports of sexual assaults.
But students and advocacy groups say the changes don’t go far enough, and they are asking the university and the administration to take a broader look at what the university needs to do to address this epidemic.
“There are still too many young men who are being raped, and there are still not enough people in the community doing something about it,” said Stephanie Coats, an attorney who works with sexual assault survivors at the American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon.
“There’s a lot that needs to be done.”
