By Rich Pedroncelli Richmond, VA (WVNF) — There are many ways to tell an emetic firefighter: he or she has the most white teeth, they’re thin, their hair is gray and they have patches of white around their eyes.
But the fire department is not going to be fooled by these clues.
“The reason why we don’t see emacies in our fire department, the reason why I’ve not seen emacias, is because we are not a fire department.
We’re not a coronavirus lab,” said Capt. Jeff Kallmann.
It’s not just the emaciating, sickening look that firefighters see on the streets that they can’t ignore.
It’s the way they move and their mannerisms.
The Richmond Firefighters Association said there are no emacian firefighters on the force, and that they don’t have a centralized protocol for dealing with emacians.
In the meantime, they are urging people to keep an eye out for emacia on fire crews.
Firefighters in the District are also encouraged to call 911 if they see emicients on fire.
